Pinterest Tuesday: A recipe!

Happy Pinterest Tuesday everyone! I have a food board that I add to all of the time so I added a Healthy Carrot Soup recipe and thought I would share my pics from the cooking session! You can find the pin here!

I added some major spice to mine as you can see but it was very good! It made quite a lot of soup! I am still eating it!

Today Neil is 2 months old! We went to the doc today and he is 12lb8oz now! Up from 10lb11oz at his 1 month appointment! He has also grown an inch! Right now he is suffering the after effects of his needles so husband and I are taking turns with him. I am obviously on my baby break. This photo was taken BEFORE the needles…

And here is Neil with that giant bear last month:

Hope you have a great hump day!

8 Weeks!

Hey All!

Neil is 8 weeks today! Yahoo!! He is definitely getting more interested in his surroundings. We test his vision by walking across the room and moving around to see if he can see us and he follows our every move! He also loves his guys!

Some days he is really great about being put down to hang out with his guys and other days not so much. Like today for instance, Neil is being a cling-on and thus I am one handed typing  this entry. He is also sucking on his hands WAY more and is starting to become a drooling machine!

MAJOR milestone yesterday! He spent two whole hours alone with Daddy Bel and it was a success! They both made it through and Neil was even given a bottle of breast milk successfully! He was getting fussy by the time I arrived back and Greg was ready to hand him over but overall it went well!

Here is this week’s shot:

When Neil is in his playpen I have started working on some Photoshop tutorials to build up my skills. Here is a couple examples and the links to the tutorials if you want to try them out!

Fun with blending link here.

Make your photos into a cool watercolor here.

Have a fun Thursday all!!

I like to scare myself…

Greg got the movie Contagion to watch for us the other day. I used to like these types of epidemic movies like Children of Men, Outbreak, 28 Days Later etc.  Neil began to fall asleep on me so I sat down and got cosy to watch the movie. About halfway through or so when everything really started going to hell in this IMAGINARY MOVIE, I looked down at Neil who was sleeping peacefully and suddenly became convinced something was wrong with him. Why wasn’t he stirring? He was definitely breathing but I was convinced it was not often enough. I had a major panic attack and got Greg to come over as I tried to wake him up. He was OBVIOUSLY groggy since he was in a DEAD sleep and I started crying thinking something was seriously wrong with him since he was still all limp from sleep. Poor Neil. He woke up fully and was totally normal and fine. Greg asked me if I should turn off the movie and I said sheepishly “Uh-huh”.

This movie is about a horrible flu outbreak where everyone dies immediately after contracting it and without even totally absorbing the movie I had myself in a state over anything ever happening to my son. It was a quite surreal experience and made me realize how much more sensitive I am to the outside world’s scariness. It was definitely an unexpected side affect of watching a MOVIE for heaven sakes. Lesson has been learned though. No more end of the world type movies for this gal.

On the lighter side, someone said Neil was rocking the TinTin. What do you think?

Pinterest Challenge

So I love pinterest and all the amazingly talented ideas it highlights. For those of you that are into it, do you find you never actually DO any of the ideas you pin?? I am one hundred percent guilty of pinning without following through! So I thought I would challenge myself to complete a pin a week and throw it onto the blog on Tuesdays! I am going to go easy on myself and allow it to be as simple as trying a recipe. This week’s is a hair tutorial I pinned!

2011 Photo Reflect

I saw this little idea over at The Paper Mama and thought I would give it a go. Since most of this year was spent off the blog I thought it might be a good idea to throw in some photos that would not have been posted about. Here goes!
Me! – picture of yourself (you don’t have to show your face). What are you most proud of accomplishing in 2011?

I am most proud of giving birth to my beautiful son and learning how to mother. It has been an incredible challenge and I am learning so much everyday.

I Love You – picture of your husband, boyfriend, children, pets, etc.

Still Laughing… – a moment you’re still laughing about now…tell us a story. Dressing up Bodhi has been a thing of ours for a while. This hipster scarf took the cake that day and he wore that thing for a couple of days. He had a run in the yard at our old house so I can only imagine what the people walking by thought of the dog in the dorky scarf…

Winter Wonderland – a picture that reflects Winter. I can’t even believe this view. It is from the top floor of our old house at about 6am. I woke up and it looked like the hallway was on fire because of that light. I went out to look and it was so cold the ocean was steaming and that red sunrise made it look as though the sea were in flames. I opened the window and got this amazing shot.

Birthday – share a birthday picture (your own or someone you love). This was my sister Katie’s cinnamon roll birthday ‘cake’. She turned 25 this year! Also, in this picture I am a few days pregnant and I did not know it!

Friends - a picture with friends (this could be your friends or your children with their friends). My dear friend Ashley’s Bachelorette!

I Was Inspired… – could be a picture of your inspiration (person or thing), or inspired by…: I was truly inspired by my pregnancy. I ended up taking a photo every week and getting more and more into figuring out the monolith that is Photoshop. It was pretty amazing watching my body transform and create such a beautiful little being.

Spring Fever – a picture that reflects Spring. My best friend started selling cupcakes in the City Market and these were some of her delicious Easter cupcakes!

Travel or Vacation - a picture taken on vacation or on a recent travel experience…even if it was only a few miles away. We went on an AMAZING 13 day vacation to Sarasota, Florida in April with Greg’s whole family. This is Greg and our niece on the beach in front of our condo.

Summer Days – a picture that reflects Summer. Chimes on the deck…

A Day In My Life – a picture of a typical day in your life. Sweats and self portraits haha

All Smiles - a picture that makes you smile or of smiling faces. My step brother and his daughter dancing at his wedding!

Autumn Harvest – a picture that reflects Autumn/Fall. Beach walk with Bodhi in October.

Family or Home – a picture of your family or a picture that represents family/home for you.My favorite place….haaaa

Celebrate! - a picture that reflects a celebration: Yay Neil is born!!

Let’s Do It Again… – a picture of something you’d like to do again soon…nuff said….

I Miss You - a picture of someone or something you really miss. She is still here right now but I missed her a lot this year!

Beautiful – a picture of someone or something you find beautiful. My gorgeous son.

Macro – share your favorite macro or close-up image.

Holidays – a picture from the Holiday of your choice. Best present ever.

My Favorite – share your favorite picture or memory from 2011. My mornings are filled with cooing and staring at this baby. This is from one of our early morns together.

Don’t Ever Change – something you love about yourself, someone, or something that you never want to change. I never want this face to lose that gorgeous happiness…

Just Because…So There! – share any picture(s) that you really want to share, but doesn’t fit in any other category.

Hopes and Dreams - share what you hope to come or dream for 2012. Feel free to share an image of your choice. I want to continue to enjoy the new family dynamic and grow creatively through my blog and photos this year! Here’s to keeping up with our (pin)trests and enjoying those closest to us!

This was so fun! I found some photos I had totally forgotten about! Linking up with zee Paper Mama and her year in review. Thanks for the inspiration!

The future is now

I am blogging from my new iPhone!! This is crazy! I can do things like this:

Just wild!

Seven Weeks!

My sweet newborn is turning into a baby. It is true! It is happening right before my eyes!  He is becoming interested in things! He loves to kick and punch the air all while smiling and cooing at you. He is mesmerized by his new mobile and of course his favorite chandelier:

He is also a major fan of what I like to call Dancey Legs:

I have learned that sometimes he just wants to be put down to do his thing. I often think that extra rocking or holding onto him is what he wants only to find the crying does not stop until he gets some room to groove. It makes me more sure about the whole attachment parenting style. He really doesn’t want me ALL the time but he knows I am always there if he needs me!

This week has been full of extreme party and family time! We haven’t had much chance to relax. Lots of people want to see the little guy! As such here are some travelling pics of Neil:

He looks like Maggie Simpson on her snowsuit I think!

Proof!!!

I feel like the adorable baby chub is appearing before my eyes. Sometimes I wake up and look at him and think “THERE IS MORE NEIL THAN THE NIGHT BEFORE” It is quite amazing to know it is 100% because of Mama’s Milk Cocktails. This is just another reason why I don’t know why people are so weirded out by breastfeeding. Nursing mothers down in the US actually held a “Nurse-In” at 250 Targets due to a woman being harassed by a Target EMPLOYEE for nursing her babe in public COVERED UP!!!$%# &%*#%#$^ See story here. Totally infuriating. I nurse Neil all over the place and positively love how easy it is and how no one even bats an eye.

Here is my happy boy on a Christmas themed blankie from his 3 year old cousin Jameson!

My darling is almost two months! We are all looking forward to the new year and getting some more projects on the go! Neil is a happy camper for the most part so I am looking forward to getting creative again!

Hope everyone has an amazing New Years Eve and relaxing long weekend!!

LoveLoveLove!

Happy Christmas All!!

Neil’s Weekly Photo Project!

Hey There!

Today is Neil’s six week birthday! Holy MOLY! He is changing more and more everyday. You can tell he is really starting to SEE things now and it is awesome. He is very enamored with this rod iron light fixture we have. I know, VERY exciting stuff. He also seems to enjoy the fan in our bedroom. He also likes laying on people, mostly me at this point but sometimes I can trick him by moving him over to his Dad’s chest for a while. I know, I know, I should be putting him down more often but after reading this article I don’t care if he prefers the human contact.

This is my favorite quote from the article:

“If you are baby with no skills in self-protection, staying with mom, having a grasp reflex, and a startle reflex that helps you grab onto your mom, makes sense.  Babies know the difference between a bassinette and a human chest. When infants are separated from their mothers, they have a “despair withdrawal” response.  The despair part comes when they alone, separated.  The kids are vocally expressing their desire not to be tiger food.”

MAKES SENSE TO ME. So for now my sweet boy shall have all the benefits of human contact. It is not that difficult to conduct my day with him strapped to me and I get the benefit of some extra exercise! When you see any footage from non western countries you get the impression that people wear their babies A LOT. I am going to guess that they aren’t too concerned about their small babes becoming “too attached” to them.

Speaking of my attached baby, I wanted to show you a 52 week photo challenge I am participating in featuring the little prince. I took the idea from the lovely pair over at Young House Love. They have a sweet little one named Clara who they completed this challenge with! It is amazing! Every week they took a photo of their daughter on a piece of rad fabric and photoshopped how many weeks she was onto a plain white onsie! You can get the full how-to right here! With Neil I have decided to use blankies that he has received from family and friends. You may not believe me, but Neil will have enough blankets to complete this challenge. I am including receiving blankets as well of course because heck! some of them are made of quite awesome fabric!!  Here are weeks 1-5:

Now drumrollll pleaseeeeeeeeeeee:

LOOK AT THOSE THIGH ROLLS BABY~~!! He is so delightfully bright!  I plan to update from now on with his weekly pic. Every Thursday is his week birthday which funnily enough is also my week birthday. I am now 1442 weeks old.
